The 25-year reunion started Friday, July 20, 2007, at the White Wolf West Steakhouse in Lava Hot Springs at 6:30. The first matter of business was introductions (some classmates weren't easily recognizable), and some classmates had spouses we'd not yet met. A slideshow of pictures used for the Senior breakfast and pictures from the yearbooks from 1977 - 1982 played while we ate and visited. Classmates chatted, moving from group to group to catch up with everyone, until 10:00 at night. Many then moved to the Blue Moon for even more conversation. Those in attendance were: Kathy Anderson Lolofie and her mom, Jean Anderson; Lance Anderson; Terro Anderson and his wife, Lori; Dena Bollinger Larsen and her husband, Ward; Roberta Brown Higbee and her husband, Kevin; Scott Burrup and his wife, Terrie; Jo Ann Christensen Buechler, her husband, Glen, and her daughter, Jennifer; Doug Cone; Mace Downs and his wife, Melissa; Annie Estes Christensen and her husband, Darin; Mike Foltz; Brent Hickman and his wife, LaDonna; Tracy Hobson and his wife, Angie; Canda Irick Dimick and her husband, Dan; Rich Kiggins; Tracey Kissel Walters and her husband, Tom; Kirk Marley and his wife, Alison; Lisa Lete Melton; Janene Matthews Reynolds and her husband, Shawn; Cecil Morris and his wife, Monica; Beth Olson Andrasko; Brent Romriell; Sherry Sears Thomas; Travis Simper; Susan Tarbert Kirkpatrick and her husband, Mark; Jenny Tillotson Devereaux and her brother, Kit; and Bob Tillotson and his wife, MaryAnn.
Annie presented classmates with the towels she'd embroidered with an eagle encircled in the saying, "Marsh Valley High School Class of '82 25-yr reunion."
Saturday morning continued the festivities with an early-morning golf tournament for the hale and hearty. No one was quite sure who actually won, but Bob was convinced that he did because he had the highest score (I don't think anyone explained to him that in golf, it's the lowest score that wins!). Those among the hale and hearty were Lance; Tracy and Angie; Ryan Thompson and his son, Jordan; Bob Tillotson; Brent Romriell, and Kirk Marley.
After the golf tournament (10:00 a.m.), we had a potluck breakfast at the Lava Hot Springs park. We had a bit of panic when we realized that the address we'd gotten from the phone book and posted on the reunion flyers wasn't the right address to the park. We bought some posterboard, markers, tape and scissors and quickly made signs to hopefully direct anyone who followed our (ok, Jo Ann's) bad directions to the right place. Those who came had a nice time visiting and eating. Those in attendance were: Kathy and her children, Irene, Camille, Keith, Wyatt and Faith; Lance; Rich; Brent; Dena and Ward; Annie and her daughter, Cara; Kirk and Alison (she stayed in the car to read the newly-released Harry Potter); Travis and his son, Wyatt; Susan, Mark, and two of their children, Kim and Billy; Bob, MaryAnn, and their son, Jake; Jo Ann, Glen and Jennifer; Sherry; Diana Romriell Swanson and her husband, Mike; and Ryan and Jordan.
Following the breakfast (12:45 p.m.), Lionel Ware conducted a tour for those interested in seeing the changes that have taken place in the high school as well as the new Sports/Performing Arts Center. Jo Ann, Annie, Susan and Sherry and their families were the only ones who took advantage of Lionel's vast knowledge of the buildings. We got to see the inner workings, right down to the centers that run the lights, intercoms and bells. It was truly a treat.
At 4:00, we all converged upon the Crystal Springs Campground for the barbeque where we feasted on chicken, baked beans, salad, potatoes, home-made rootbeer, and peach and apple cobbler with ice cream, all the while visiting with the others in attendance. Those who made it for the barbeque were: Lance; Terro, Lori, and two of their children; Roberta and her daughter, Brooke; Scott, Terrie, their daughters, Amelia and Amber, and their granddaughter, Mylee Jo; Mace and Melissa; Annie and Cara; Tony Hobson; Janene and Shawn; Laura Nead Arnold, her husband, Vic, their son Bridger and his friend; Sherry; Travis and Wyatt; Susan, Mark, Kim and Billy; Doug and his wife, Deanna, and their children, Eli, Miki, and Tuck; Ryan and Jordan; Jenny and Kit; Canda and Dan; and Bob, MaryAnn, and their children.
After we finished eating, we had a short meeting where we discussed who would be in charge of the 30-year reunion and when we might hold it. Jo Ann and Annie volunteered to take on the task (they are out of their minds!), and we discussed and agreed to hold it in the second week (8th and 9th) of June. The location will be determined at a later date.
We discussed the annual potluck that has received a majority vote among the questionnaires submitted. It will also be held the second week of June each year. It will be June 7th in 2008. The place will be at the Willow Park in Logan, 416 W 700 S at 2:00 p.m. It will be a potluck picnic for anyone who wants to and can attend.
After the business was concluded, Terro graciously agreed to be our auctioneer and coax us to depart with our money. Items auctioned were a Christmas star (Roberta); pillow and blanket (MaryAnn (Bob's wife) and Rachel's (Todd Humphrey's wife) new company, www.oobees.com ); receiving blankets (Annie); fireworks (Terro); picture frames (Scott); the remaining reunion towels (Annie); the new Harry Potter book (auctioned twice when it was bought and then turned back in to raise more money) (Terro); and a movie basket which included 3 DVDs, theater popcorn and chips, and assorted candies (Janene).
The reunion fund balance at the end of the 20 year reunion was $213. The following expenses were used to cover the 25-year reunion: $63.96 postage; $58.08 printing flyers; and $51.09 on juice, plasticware, napkins, and paper plates for the breakfast, leaving a balance of $39.87. We raised $349 on the auction bringing the balance to $388.87. We then refunded $150 of the money Bob had to pay to cover the meals that were guaranteed for those who RSVPed that they were coming but then didn't. Unfortunately, Bob still had to "eat" $129.58. If anyone who did not make the dutch oven dinner on Saturday and had signed up would like to pay, they can send $ at $12.50 per person. Finally, Doug made a run for drinks for everyone, and any money left over after the purchase of the drinks ($12.14) went into the fund. The final balance is $263.76. We will look into putting it into a savings account or CD to earn interest between now and the 30-year reunion.
The last classmates departed between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. All in all, the reunion was a smashing success!!
